Chris Denny from Hartley Wintney Country Market
Hampshire Country Market
“Back in 1988, whilst selling my cakes at a local Christmas Bazaar, I was approached to join
Basingstoke Country Markets. It interested me as I trained as a cook and have always been
into baking cakes and making desserts – including the occasional Wedding Cake. I was a
member for ten years until 1998 when the Market unfortunately had to close having been
running since pre war. Initially I didn't think about going anywhere else, but one day got a
phone call from Enid who invited me to join Hartley Wintney and I’ve been there ever since!
I mainly make cakes but I also find the time to make preserves, pastries and fancies. A
group of us at Hartley Wintney are now producing for several local shops which is not only
great fun but brings in a nice little income, sharing out what has been ordered between us.
Slowly the orders are growing which is great to see, so we must be doing something right!
I love belonging to Country Markets. I enjoy baking and the Hartley Wintney members are
sociable and a lovely group of people. I’d recommend joining Country Markets to anyone who
loves cooking and making friends.”
